Mom and Me
As daughters, we walk together through life with our mothers; in love, in conflict, in understanding and misunderstanding. They care for us until it is our time to care for them. As they defiantly clutch their dissolving identities, we struggle not to surrender our own. Only women share this dance. We owe our mothers the respect of their sacrifice to their families, their culture, their generation. Mothers are the most important beings on this planet. Yet our expectations of them are unfair. We judge instead of support, take instead of give. By the time we are grown, we often forget their simple moments of wisdom in our childhoods that guided our path. Yes, mothers are imperfect. And can be maddening. Sometimes, over time, they can forget their true value. We need to remind them. We owe them our very lives.
